2 eggs
¾ lb. lard
1 cup sugar
6 cups flour
3 Tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. anise seed
1 glass wine (white or red) or orange juice
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
Combine eggs, lard, 1 cup sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, anise seed and wine in order. Mix well. If dough is dry, add more wine. Mix to good consistency for rolling out. Cut out with cookie cutter. In a separate bowl combine sugar and cinnamon. Dab top of cookie in sugar and cinnamon mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Yields about 7 dozen. These cookies are a wonderful New Mexico tradition.
